Humility

So I have been here in Egypt for two months exactly today। Its been so many different things, the last time I came I was about to turn 19 andI was interested in going out and shopping and just seeing everything. This time I want to experience a different side of Egypt, don't get me wrong I still like shopping and going out, but I want to see the non-touristic side of Egypt. Where my family comes from, what the everyday Egyptian does. I experienced this the other day, I went with my cousin to buy wood (she makes really cool masks out of it) and the family of the man who sales the wood lives in the same building where he works. My cousin and I went to the back and sat with his wife and four daughters and daughter-in-law. They brought us hot tea to drink and offered us fresh fruit, immediately. These people don't have much there house isn't big and they don't have running water. There is a well with a pump that they use right by their door. But they were so gracious and kind. The youngest girl was 5 and she would peek at me from behind her sister. She was very shy but she was curious about me.I had some gummy bears so I offered her some, she had never tried them before. She liked them, so I gave her the little bag. I found out her name is Yasmine which is arabic for Jasmine (same as my sister Leila). Yasmine decided she wanted a picture of me so she got her father's camera phone (I've learned that no matter what socio-economic level you areat you will have a phone in Egypt). She took a few pictures of me and I told her that I wanted pics of her. She then proceeded to give me a hair clip, and her mother gave me a black khol eyeliner holder it is brass and antique. I asked my cousin to tell them that I couldn'taccept but they insisted. I was humbled by their generosity and openess. I have spent a lot of time at our family farm, I must say that I've lived in the country before but this is a real farming community. We have chickens, and cows, and water buffalo, and goats, and pigeons,(yes they raise them to eat, taste like dark meat chicken I'm not a fan) and ducks, and too many dogs, and three horses. So I wake up to a rooster crowing and dogs barking. We grow oranges and not to be bias or anything but they are the best oranges I've ever had. Sorry Floridians its true! They are delicious. So thats my first blog about Egypt. Enjoy!
